INTRO

HISTORY

SpaceLounge has its roots in Burning Man 1997's Camp Chiba. Originaly a theme for one of the original members 28th birthday party, SpaceLounge and its signature cd covered bar dome appeared on the playa in 1998.

Since then, each year the group constructs what is essentially a geodesic nite-club in the Nevada desert. In its current configuration the installation consists of a 36' dancedome, an 18' bar dome, two 16' chill domes and a 16' psycho porno puppet theatre dome (yes, we're serious). The collective also collaborates on smaller independent art projects, such as the collectively owned Martha, a transformed Toyota mini-van...

In order to fund the creation of SpaceLounge and the other art projects on the desert, the collective throws a series of fundraising parties throughout the year in San Francisco; each is conceptually themed with interactive installations, activities, decor and costumed participants.

The group also holds a series of non-themed "Mini-Lounge" events at a smaller scale, providing an opportunity for everybody to kick back and enjoy the talents of the collective's phenomenal djs.
